Whether she’s cheering on her favorite soccer team in Mexico, donating her hair for cancer patients or rescuing dogs off the street, Verónica González Vázquez values helping others. Her drive to cultivate strong community connections extends to her role as Exhaust Engineer Manager at Navistar’s Technical Center in Mexico, where she leads a team of five in designing and validating truck exhaust systems. “Helping new engineers and others succeed excites me the most. It’s a big responsibility that makes me really proud.”
Verónica sets the tone with a supportive environment of open communication to bring out the best in people – with the goal for her team to keep learning. Her advice to new engineers: “Strive to keep growing. Even seemingly small things can impact a project so keep an eye on the little details, too.”

In a male dominated field, Verónica always feels supported. Winning an “Authentic Leadership Award” from the Women in Navistar (WIN) employee resource group elevated her confidence that she's guiding in the right ways. “It was very remarkable to learn my team feels grateful for my leadership and support.” Navistar’s focus to provide a sense of belonging has generated a lasting impression on Verónica. She takes pride in being a reliable resource, making time to listen, considering everyone’s ideas and guiding them to helpful resources when they need a nudge.

In her 11 years with Navistar, Verónica’s found plenty of ways to grow, learn and get promoted. “It’s great to be part of a company that is working on developing its people and helping to protect the environment.” She sees the company’s fierce focus on sustainability as a mindset change that delivers better opportunities for customers and colleagues while protecting our planet.
