Working in Navistar’s Program Chief Engineers Group, Phani describes his position as both captain and player. As a leader, he acts as a sounding board and motivator for his team while encouraging “everyone to add their own flavor.” As a team member, he works hard to deliver positive energy, flexible problem solving and exceptional technical skills to build and design trucks and buses.

LIFELONG LEARNER

“I’m always challenged here.” Over the past 20 years, Phani has fueled his career with exciting new projects and roles – including earning his master’s degree in business with tuition support from Navistar. Phani finds the company’s “fail fast and move on” philosophy refreshing. Our processes help guide engineers but leave room for tweaks and improvements. With Navistar’s hybrid work format, Phani spends more time with his two sons exploring museums and playing games. Seeing the world through his kids’ eyes strengthens his adaptable mindset so he can better lead teams through the unscripted moments.

CURIOUS COLLABORATOR

“We’re thinking differently to be successful in this new future we’re all sharing.” Moving from internal combustion engines to new propulsion and zero-emissions involves deep cooperation across all functions. His team’s work to transfer Navistar’s advanced truck architecture – with new technologies, common components and upgraded interiors – to the company’s refreshed bus line stands as a strong example of intense camaraderie. Phani describes his role as multi-layered, where he acts as a voice for all of engineering, a “connector of dots” between various teams and leadership and an expert evaluator to drive people from questioning to understanding.
